Letter to Editor,
I am writing about the forced levy on the residential taxpayers of Weyburn. This is unjust and unfair, and I suggest the following:
1) The city should have a referendum at the next civic election, or sooner, for the residential taxpayers on whether or not to pay for the entire area population, only we vote on the levy. Polled flyers to mailboxes don't work. Some residents did not receive the poll while commercial properties did, which doesn't make sense due to the article in the Review Feb. 29, 2012 which states only residential property owners will be levied.
2) Hold off any decisions on this levy until the next civic election, then put in the proposal on the ballots to levy everyone, including commercial property owners and those residing in apartments and condos, not just tradition residential owners.
3) Hold hospital lotteries as fundraisers. Most cities small or large, for example Regina and Radville, do this and Weyburn should as well.
Construction and administration over costs in this levy time frame will mean more unjust taxes.
Sincerely, Bill Thompson
