A special sod turning ceremony was held recently to celebrate the addition of three new relocatable classrooms at Canora Junior Elementary School (CJES). Construction is set to begin on September 17 and is a sign of the population growth that Canora and area is seeing now and into the future. The Town of Canora was represented by Mayor Terry Dennis who helped in celebrating a major addition to the elementary school where community members are strong partners in education.

It was also Grandparent’s Day at the school where many past staff members and students of the school were in attendance to share a special day with their grandchildren – the current students of CJES. After brief presentations by GSSD Vice-Chair Bryan Cottenie and MLA Ken Krawetz, the sod turning ceremony took place followed by a puzzle piece project in each classroom and a hot dog lunch. The warm, sunny day set a perfect scenario for a very special day!
