Agriculture Week proclaimed

November 4-10 has been officially proclaimed Agriculture Week in the City of Yorkton.

In presentation to council Monday evening Juanita Polegi, Executive Director of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce pointed out the fact that agriculture accounts for one third of all of Saskatchewan’s exports and one quarter of the jobs in the province.

In 2011 Saskatchewan became Canada’s top agri-food exporting province. “The ag industry significantly impacts the economy of the City of Yorkton,” says Polegi, “with over 60 businesses directly involved in servicing the farming and ranching community.”

In conjunction with the week Yorkton’s annual Harvest Showdown event will take place November 7-10.
